You know who I miss on All My Children? Brooke English.
I always thought Julia Barr brought such class to the part, and it was fun watching the character evolve through the years. It’s a shame that AMC couldn’t (or wouldn’t) stay invested in the role.
I think about Brooke often while watching AMC. I guess it’s because I see so many characters she was at one time intertwined with. Her absence particularly struck me during Monday’s scenes between Erica (Susan Lucci) and Adam (David Canary). No, they weren’t talking about anything that involved Brooke, but the history between these characters and Ms. English is just so rich. I have to believe they miss her, too.
Brooke was a wonderful adversary/ally for Erica. In fact, their relationship was reminiscent of Dorian/Vicki on One Life to Live or Sally/Stephanie on The Bold and the Beautiful. Those personalities that can’t stand each other yet in some twisted way share the highest respect.
Brooke always gave as good as she got with Erica … and with Adam, for that matter. Now, I guess that’s Krystal’s role, but it just doesn’t resonate as well for me. Perhaps it’s the lack of history, compared to what Brooke brought to the canvas. Maybe it’s the fact that the Carey women bowled into Pine Valley and took over the joint, pushing other more deserving characters aside. Or it could just be my loyalty to Barr and the way she epitomized Brooke as a true lady with a rock-solid backbone.
I would love to see Brooke breeze into town to help keep Erica and Adam on their toes. And if she and Tad found their way back together, all the better. (Hey, Jamie didn’t appear out of thin air, ya know.) Besides, Tad’s really being wasted in Krystal land, and I always appreciated the chemistry between Barr and Michael E. Knight.
So, how about it, AMC? Surely I can’t be the only one riding on the “Bring Back Brooke” bandwagon.

Brooke should have NEVER disappeared & if that bandwagon is started, I’ll hop right on it & push it from behind if necessary!
A Brooke/Jack romp would’ve been much more effective than the crappy Barbara/Jack romp was, would have had longer lasting ramifications & been true to the history of all the characters involved.
& one thing about Erica/Brooke is they came together when their children were in trouble regardless of their differences. I think Erica could’ve used Brooke’s shoulder during the Spike/Ian stuff.
I also think Brooke possibly could’ve reined Adam in during the whole kidnapping baby Jenny escapade when no one else could.
I would also much prefer a Tad/Brooke union over a Tad/Krystal (YUCK/YIKES) pairing. It may not have lasted either, but would’ve been more interesting/fun to watch. Whatever Krystal/Tad may have had in the past is dead imho.
I too think about Brooke often, they could’ve at least brought her back for a couple days when Jamie left town … but that’d be too much like right.
FYI – I tried to post on the **Lulu blog** yesterday but the link is broken – I’d love a chance to AGREE with you in writing 🙂

Hey, Kimi. You crack me up. I can just envision you and me pushing the Brooke bandwagon up to the AMC studios! Anyway, I don’t think we’re the only ones who miss Brooke, so maybe TPTB will wake up and realize what a mistake they made letting Julia Barr go. One can always hope, eh? Thanks again for posting.
