By Michele Dargan

First of all, let me start out by saying I loved the tribute to Dick Clark and American Bandstand.

So well-deserved!

It was difficult watching Dick Clark sobbing at the end and I do think they could have taken the camera off of him sooner.

I also am so happy that Agnes Nixon, creator One Life To Live and All My Children was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Agnes Nixon - Lifetime Achievement Award

Again, well-deserved and so appropriate that Susan Lucci give her that award.

Known as bringing social issues to her daytime dramas, Nixon is a pioneer and a trailblazer.

All I have to say is that I wish she were still at the helm of her beloved soaps.

The tribute to As The World Turns, which is ending its 54-year television run in September, was definitely sad.

But I really wish they had used more clips from its early days….I find that when they do these tributes to longtime soaps, they use a couple of old clips and a majority of newer ones.

As many of my Twitter peeps noted last night, where was the In Memoriam???

I think that was a huge black eye on the event, not to have honored those who have passed away and have given so much to the genre.

And there was NO pre-awards, red carpet coverage!

Where the heck was SOAPnet with that?

I know SOAPnet (the alleged soap channel) is going off the air in 2012, but has it already checked itself off the air?

SOAPnet usually carries that portion of the program.

That was a HUGE faux pas not having live red carpet coverage.

Click here to see SOAPnet’s still photo red carpet gallery

And, for the record, I don’t think the 2010 Daytime Emmy Awards were rigged for CBS – per se – just because it was broadcast on that network.

(My tweets last night were taken out of context…coming from a reporter I never thought I’d be saying THOSE words – LOL!)

Facts: the awards WERE broadcast on CBS and it did receive the majority of major awards.

But I DO think ABC got ripped off….there were some amazing actors and actresses from ABC who were nominated.

That’s not taking ANYTHING away from the CBS actors who did win and I’m not saying they didn’t deserve it.

In the name of full disclosure, I am an ABC soap fan. Those are the main soaps that I watch daily.

(Hey, I can’t watch them all…I have a day job!)

Julie Berman (Lulu/GH) took home the Best Younger Actress Emmy and was the only ABC actor/actress to do so.

It was her second consecutive win in this category and huge kudos to her!

I do think the sentimentality of As The World Turns ending in three months may have factored in to the fact that ATWT won so much. (Note the usage of may have.)

And that’s not a bad thing, because this is their last chance to win for this soap and it is a wonderful tribute to this longest running soap.

It’s really extremely sad that As The World Turns is ending – and following so closely on the heels of it’s CBS compatriot Guiding Light closing down last year.

I enjoyed the emotion and the speeches by the ATWT actors who won: Maura West for Outstanding Lead Actress (Carly/ATWT), Michael Park for Outstanding Lead Actor (Jack/ATWT) and Outstanding Supporting Actress Julie Pinson (Janet/ATWT).

I really liked the way Pinson – in her acceptance speech – payed homage to her fellow nominees in the supporting actress category….Very classy of her!

Julie Pinson (Janet/ATWT) winner of Outstanding Supporting Actress

Just like last year, I think that was one of the strongest categories.

In my opinion, it should have been between Carolyn Hennesy (Diane/GH) and Bree Williamson (Jessica/OLTL) for the win.

Again, not taking anything away from Pinson.

Hennesy is one of the brightest spots on GH….Among all of the mob violence and doom and gloom, Hennesy as the saavy mob lawyer who brings a humaness to all the violent stuff around her.

Carolyn Hennesy (Diane/GH) Oustanding Supporting Actress nominee

She lights up the screen and is a master at putting a smile on my face while I’m watching her masterfully portray the smart, sometimes wise-cracking Diane.

As for Williamson (Jessica/OLTL), she got totally ripped off last year. She should have won it, hands down, no question!

So she’s nominated again this year….with equally strong performances – and she doesn’t win again? Huh?

Williamson is one of the strongest performers on OLTL…she constantly delivers in all of her scenes – whether comic or sadness – Williamson gives 110 percent.

In the Outstanding Supporting Actor category, Brian Kerwin (Charlie/OLTL) got my vote.

Again, not taking away ANYTHING from winner Billy Miller (Billy/Y&R)….but Kerwin is a great veteran who brings lots of experience to the role of Charlie Bank and has brought lots of layers to the character in the past year.

I also have to give nods and kudos to Bradford Anderson (Spinelli/GH) and Jonathan Jackson (Lucky/GH) for their noms and, quite frankly, I would have been happy if they had won.

Anderson….what can I say….he is totally amazing as the offbeat, sweet and brilliant computer geek Spinelli….He’s another one who brings so much to his character and to the role, that he really needs to win this at some point.

Jackson…I must say I was less than happy when he took the role back from Greg Vaughan, who I loved as Lucky. When Jackson first came back, I thought he looked way too young to be Lucky….let alone a cop.

But, I must say, Jackson has won me over.

He gave such gut-wrenching performances when Lucky found out about Liz/Nik betrayal and he’s done such good work that I’ve come around to thinking of him as Lucky.

There’s no doubt he’s a wonderful actor and I also love his scenes with Luke (Tony Geary) and Ethan (Nathan Parsons) his new-found brother.

As far as Outstanding Drama Series, the Bold and the Beautiful won for the second consecutive year!

Seriously?

Oh…almost forgot….

So glad that Cash Cab won two Emmys, including Ben Bailey for Outstanding Game Show Host.

I love that show!

Wasn’t that a wonderful acceptance speech given by Vincent Irizarry (Dr. David) on winning the Best Supporting Actor Emmy Sunday night?
He started off his speech with dedicating his award to his “beloved son Ash who is fighting our nation’s battles in the land of Afghanistan right now…To you, Ash, and to all your brave brothers and sisters in arms right now, Thank you. Come home safe, come home soon.”
He went on to thank and share the award with his wife and his other children. He also thanked his co-workers and – to a rousing applause – thanked “the people behind the camera, the crew.”
He was so incredibly eloquent and generous in his speech.
Well, here….Take a few moments to watch the video for yourself. It is well worth it.

The category was so strong that Irizarry tied with Jeff Branson (Shayne) from Guiding Light, who used to play Jonathan Lavery on AMC.
By the way, I think the Supporting Actor and Actress categories contained the toughest competition.
The only other thing that I will say about the Emmys is that I think Bree Williamson (Jessica/OLTL) got totally ripped off in the Supporting Actress category.

She should have won that Emmy, unequivocally hands down.
Her scenes before and after Nash’s death were gut-wrenching and her portrayal of three distinct personas – Jess/Tess/Bess – was nothing short of amazing.
And I’m not at all slighting anyone else in that category, because it was very, very strong competition.
I love AMC’s Melissa Claire Egan’s portrayal of Crazy Annie. She is so great to watch.
AMC’s Alicia Minshew as Kendall is always on…..giving 110 percent to every performance.
Please don’t misunderstand.
I think Tamara Braun, who won the award for her portrayal of Ava on DOOL, is a wonderful actress and has excelled at every role that she’s taken on.
She played a flawless “Carly Corinthos” on GH and did a wonderful job as “Reese” on AMC.
I’m just saying that Bree Williamson’s work was incredible above-and-beyond stuff and she should have been recognized for it.
What are your thoughts on the Daytime Emmys?

Nothing’s perfect. That’s for sure.
But, in my opinion, the 36th Annual Daytime Emmy Nomination list is much more on target than last year’s picks.
There’s absolutely no question that Kristen Alderson (Starr/OLTL) deserves to be on that list in the Younger Actress category.
That omission just leaves me shaking my head. I just don’t understand how she didn’t make the final cut with such strong performances in her major front-burner pregnancy/baby death storyline. She hit home runs with those.
Alderson’s co-star, Brandon Buddy (Cole/OLTL) also should have made the list as well, but I think next year will be his year with his outstanding acting in his recent detoxing scenes.
I also think that Carolyn Hennesy (Diane/GH) should have made the list in the Supporting Actress Category. She is one of the brightest spots on that show.
But overall, I would say, it’s a much better list than last year, when they pretty much snubbed the ABC soaps.
Click here to view my nomination wish list that I wrote in March after they released the Emmy Pre-Nomination List.
I didn’t do half bad with my list,eh?
For me, the Supporting Actress and Supporting Actor categories are very strong. It will be interesting to see who comes out on top.
Supporting Actress: OLTL’s Bree Williamson as Jess/Tess/Bess should take it, unquestionably. Although I absolutely love AMC’s Melissa Claire Egan as Crazy Annie. AMC’s Alicia Minshew as Kendall has been so strong and always gives us 110 percent.
So that category is going to be tough.
Supporting Actor: Vincent Irizarry is a super strong contender. He gives us so many layers of Dr. David Hayward on AMC. He has been spectacular since returning to AMC in the past year.
I also love Bradford Anderson as Spinelli on GH. Who doesn’t? He also has shown a broad range of his acting talents since setting foot in Port Charles.
All three ABC Soaps (All My Children, One Life To Live and General Hospital) got nominations in the Drama Writing category and, for me, that’s a good thing.
The Daytime Emmys show will be telecast on the CW Television Network on Sunday, August 30th from the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
Check out the list below to see if your favorites made it.

The Daytime Emmy Prenomination list has been announced for the upcoming 36th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy Awards.
Check out the list below and see what you think.
But remember – it’s Pre-Nom, which they will whittle down to the final list.
As far as I’m concerned Bree Williamson (Jessica/OLTL) should be a shoo-in for Outstanding Supporting Actress because of her powerful scenes re: Nash’s death and also for her incredible portrayals of her multiple personalities Jess/Tess/Bess.
But the Supporting Actress Category is very strong this year.
Others deserving of recognition in the Supporting Category: Melissa Clair Egan (Annie/AMC), Alicia Minshew (Kendall/AMC) and Carolyn Hennesy (Diane/GH).
In the Lead Actress Category, my pick would be either Laura Wright as Carly on GH or Debbi Morgan as Angie on AMC.
But there is at least one glaring omission in that category – Erika Slezak (Viki/OLTL) and I’m sure there are others that I can’t think of off the top of my head.
I also think that Kristin Alderson (Starr/OLTL) is a strong contender in the Younger Actress category for the pregnancy storyline and also for the way she showed a gamut of emotions toward Todd’s transgressions.
Kirsten Storms (Maxi/GH) also deserves a shot at this because of her consistently good portrayal and the way she masterfully takes us on a ride through Maxi’s character growth. Her scenes with Bradford Anderson (Spinelli/GH) have been a joy to watch and Anderson should also be a contender in the Supporting Actor category.
Also a favorite of mine in the Supporting Actor category: Vincent Irizarry for his portrayal of Dr. David Hayward on AMC, the doctor who is not exactly “the good Dr.”
For Outstanding Lead Actor, I have to go with two of my very favorites: Robert S. Woods as Bo Buchanan on OLTL and Michael Easton as John McBain on OLTL.
Both of them command my undivided attention when they are onscreen and they have been consistently good in endearing their characters to me.
Woods had some great scenes upon learning of the death of Bo’s father, Asa.
Also in the Outstanding Lead Actor category, I have to give kudos to Darnell Williams (Jesse/AMC) and Thorsten Kaye (Zach/AMC). I so enjoy watching them both and they have had some really good emotional scenes this past year that merit them being in the hunt.
A clear omission for Lead Actor is Trevor St. John (Todd/OLTL). He has had some superb scenes this past year and a huge front-burner storyline.
In the Outstanding Younger Actor category, I’d pick either Brandon Buddy (Cole/OLTL) or Cornelius Smith, Jr. (Frankie, AMC).
