Can you believe Genie Francis is coming back to General Hospital?
Yeah, me neither, especially after they keep putting her legendary, legacy character out to pasture. But it’s true. The popular actress will be bringing her iconic Laura to our TV screens once more beginning Aug. 26.
Of course, it will only be for a short stint because the stewards of GH don’t know a good thing when they have it. But I’ll take what I can get.
Supposedly Laura’s return will have something to do with Lulu … as do virtually all things on this show nowadays. (I’ll refrain from a full-on Lulu rant here because I just had one recently and, even though she annoys the stuffing out of me, her character really doesn’t deserve so much thought and attention, which is something GH would be wise to realize so it can quit putting her smug face in so many scenes.)
Anyhow, Genie’s return is actually the important note in all this, especially considering she said she would be interested in coming back full-time. (Check out the announcement here.).
Good news, right? Apparently not, if you’re GH.
“I would stay on, but ‘General Hospital’ honestly doesn’t seem to want that relationship with this character at the moment,” reports the actress.
They really are a bunch of … Excuse me for a quick mental reference to Bridget Jones … oh, yes, knobheads with no knobs!
How will Luke fit into all this? Who knows? And, really, who cares? Well, I guess Tracy will.
Laura’s return will be brief, so what’s the point in getting “the love of her life” heavily involved? It’s just another recipe for heartbreak.
Then again, Genie got an Emmy out of her last short stint.
Hmmmmmm … Maybe that’s why she’s willing to come back to a show that seems to lack respect for her character … and for her status as a soap star.
But it probably has more to do with Genie being a class act who appreciates GH fans and recognizes what a gift Laura is for longtime soap viewers, no matter how small her airtime.
In any case, I’m ready to welcome Genie’s warm presence on my screen again. Maybe she might even make Lulu tolerable.
What? Miracles happen all the time on soaps.

I can’t believe Laura is coming back — and she looks barely a minute older. She must have a portrait in her closet that’s doing the aging for her! I may have to start watching again!

Will be interesting to see how Laura fits into this whole scenario.
Altho I really love Laura, don’t want to see her in scenes w/Luke unless she’s got a longer return. I don’t want to get reinvested, get my hopes up, watch Luke subtely trash Tracy only for Laura to go away then I have to watch Luke make up for it.
Laura may be the only one who can tell Lulu “stay away from Johnny” & Lulu heed that warning. Maybe.

I couldn’t disagree more……….I find LULU entertaining and so Laura like. Love her. I’ve watched GH since 78.
