Kids on soaps are more often seen than heard. (And in some cases they just disappear, i.e. the attic-climbing, ski-waxing Bobby Martin on All My Children.)
But every once in a while a show actually gives a child actor something to do.
On General Hospital, little Michael has been on the run after illegally buying a gun, trying to dump it and then accidentally shooting his father’s on-again, off-again girlfriend.
OK, it’s not exactly a typical feel-good story, but what did impress me were the scenes between Michael (Dylan Cash) and Carly (Laura Wright) after they had been reunited.

GH viewers have watched Dylan grow up on screen, which is a major indicator of how much he must be valued by the higher ups. Most children face SORASing every year or so. (Did you see how big Spencer’s gotten?)
But Michael, like Robin (Kimberly McCullough) before him, has been allowed to age at a normal pace. Because of that, viewers have been able to watch Dylan grow as an actor, too.
You know what? He can be pretty impressive.
Maybe it was the nature of the scenes, the fact that Michael was finally admitting what he had done (which will hopefully put an end to Sonny’s knee-jerk and downright jerky attitude toward, well, pretty much everyone). Maybe it’s the parent in me that responded so deeply, recognizing the dynamics between a concerned mother and her upset son.
Whatever the reason, Dylan did an excellent job relaying Michael’s fear — fear that he’d killed Kate, fear of Sonny’s reaction, and fear that he’d never be forgiven.
I guess big performances really can come in small packages.

Dylan Cash is a good actor. He’s gone through four different Carly’s over the years and has remained consistent in his performances. Even the best adult actors don’t always do that.
& for the first time in a really long time I did sense Michael was scared & feared what his father would do to him.
I loved his scenes w/Robin also, they weren’t as dramatic but it was a nice nod to history. I also remembered when she dressed him as a pumpkin for Halloween lol.

I am very sad that Dylan Cash will be leaving the show. I hope that this is a mistake. I have enjoyed watching him and how he has grown with the show. I feel there is no reason why that can not make him look older as he is older in real life than who he plays. My children enjoy watching the show sometimes when I have it on and one of my sons thinks he is a cool big brother. I wish they would think about letting him go again as it would be a big mistake for the show and it’s viewers. There have been too many good actors that have already left and I hope that Dylan’s will stay and not bring in a new. This is his roll, let him have it!

    Hi Michelle,
I can’t agree with you more! I had also heard that Dylan was fired and I am livid about it!
My blog post about it will post tomorrow (Monday). Check it out.
