They’re both manipulative.
And they’ll do just about anything to get what they want.
So I’m watching General Hospital Thursday and Skye Chandler Quartermaine asks Ric Lansing for a play date with their two young daughters and I can’t help but think….
What does Skye really want?
Apparently, Ric wondered that too.
Of course, he’s no one to talk.
He’s a dirty district attorney who’s planted evidence and put a phony witness on the stand during a trial – and those are the least of his misdeeds.
When Ric questioned Skye’s motives, she understood where he’s coming from.
“It takes a player to know a player,” she acknowledged. “You’d be a fool to trust me.”
And visa versa, Skye!
As the scene went on, the two talked about how having children has changed them.
They talked about Ric’s complicated relationship with Alexis.
They talked about their unhappy childhoods.
And they talked about their love for their daughters: Skye for Lila Rae and Ric for Molly.
Rick Hearst and Robin Christopher delivered some real in-the-moment scenes that were wonderful to watch. I have always enjoyed both actors through the years.
I liked Rick Hearst from the start – although I haven’t always liked his alter ego Ric Lansing, because he’s done some really despicable things.
I hated when he chained Carly, while pregnant, in a room and planned to steal her baby after she gave birth. I didn’t think I would ever like him again.
But then he flashes that smile and he shows that emotionally wounded little boy side – and he reels me back in again.
Skye has been a regular character on all three ABC soaps: All My Children, One Life To Live and General Hospital.
I’ve watched her lie and scheme her way through all three, and, as with Ric, I’ve always liked Skye and felt a lot of compassion for her.
She hasn’t had an easy life. But, then again, who really does in soap land?
I really felt sorry for her when Jasper “Jax” Jacks left her on their wedding night to help Brenda, his former love who reemerged from the dead. He ultimately dumped Skye for Brenda, sending Skye into a perpetual drunken tailspin.
I loved her pairing with Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). Both actors really shined together, but the Luke/Skye relationship never really went anywhere romantically, because of his loyalty to his catatonic wife, Laura.
And now, Skye may be on the brink of another relationship – with Ric.
Could she be the one to bring out the good side of this bad boy? Stay tuned.
