Poor Natalie!

How much sadness and loss does one person have to take?

I tell ya, that first scene today, when Natalie was holding Jared’s picture in the church was so sad. As she was talking to God and telling him that he brought back Cristian and John from the “dead,” I was thinking the same thing.

And my heart broke for her.

She really has had a rough road of it on One Life To Live.

Let’s recap, shall we?

Natalie (Melissa Archer) lost (figuratively speaking) her boyfriend, Seth, (remember him way back when?) to Jessica, after Seth fell in love with Jessica.

Then, Natalie – an outcast back then – won over the heart of Cristian Vega.

But, complications (as is always the case in a soap opera) arose when Cristian’s girlfriend, Jen Rappaport lied that she was pregnant to keep him with her.

When the truth finally came out, Natalie and Cristian married. The next day, he “dies” but the body was never recovered.

Natalie was devastated.

When she finally starts dating again with the tall, dark and amazingly handsome cop John McBain (Can ya tell I like him a bit?), Cristian returns from the dead…… (lotsa stuff in between of course).

Eventually Natalie divorces Cristian and John and Natalie fall in love. But just as John gets his mother’s engagement ring and is going to ask Natalie to marry him, HE gets “killed” in a car accident.

Of course, he doesn’t REALLY get killed. It’s an identity mix-up of the bodies with him and Hugh Hughes and, eventually, everyone realizes that John is alive and Hugh is dead. But John and Natalie couldn’t make a go of it the second time around.

If you’ve lost count at this point – one husband “dead” and one fiancee “dead.”

Natalie mourned both of them.

Which brings us up to date —- and to Jared.

Here’s a really great tribute video to Natalie and Jared.

In my opinion, Jared (John Brotherton) was the best suited for Natalie.

Not to mention, Natalie and Jared overcame severe obstacles to be together – including the fact that he tried to bilk her family out of their fortune and when she found out kept it quiet to be with him.

And, of course, there was Nash’s death, which Jess/Tess/Bess blamed on Natalie and Jared and exacted revenge by locking them in the basement. The two of them almost died together in that basement.

Now, Finally….FINALLY, when they are together, married, happy and an accepted part of the Buchanan family – he’s dead….Shot to death in front of Natalie’s eyes.

And what’s up with that really creepy final scene when Mitch Laurence emerged from Jared’s casket…..UGH!

I just can’t believe TPTB brought in Jared – connected him to his father, Charlie, who’s married to Viki, Natalie’s mother, only to kill him off!!

Grrrr. Not happy about it.

Not to mention it looks like his son’s death may send Charlie back to the bottle, which would only escalate the downward spiral of all the OLTL storylines.

But I’ll save THAT rant for another day……

Sorry- I am not a Jared fan. Never was. He was a con man who has lied to Natalie and her entire family since the second he arrived in town. Natalie married him because she was rebounding from John. She was trying to move on with her life and be happy. She turned a blind eye to Jared’s betrayals in the past (hello…remember UNCLE Jared??) His movtiation from day one was self-centered. Natalie’s devastation now played brilliantly by Melissa Archer is about losing yet another chance at happiness – especially by a man who has already taken so much from her. She is broken because of everything she has gone through in her life, with this being the culmination of a lot of bad stuff. All this he was the “love of her life” stuff is garbage and a plot point for Natalie to seek revenge against Mitch and for John and Natalie to reconnect. I can stomach the genuflecting at Jared’s feet for now – knowing the greater good is coming. With all that said, Melissa is kicking ass with her scenes! She is the most under-utilized actress on that show.

    Hi shargem69,

I definitely agree with you about Jared in the beginning. I really hated that whole “Uncle Jared” thing.
But I do think Jared was redeemed and, at least in my eyes, I was able to forgive the bad stuff that went down in the beginning, particularly since he is linked to Charlie and I love Viki and Charlie together.
Don’t get me wrong. I was a HUGE John/Natalie fan round one. Round two, not so much. I didn’t like when John came back from the dead, pushed her away and treated her pretty badly.
I think Melissa has really knocked it out of the ball park with her recent performances for sure.
And it does look like they’re setting up for John/Natalie round three, which is not necessarily a bad thing if he opens up and treats her right.
    Thanks for posting!

I too am a HUGE John/Nat fan. Even more so the first time around. I was saddened the 2nd time around when TIIC broke them up and moved him on to Marty, who is a psychiatrist. This is a character who HATES psychaitrists! Doc Crosby ring a bell? Then they move Natalie on to Jared, who was nothing but a two bit conman, IMO. It started off with him lying to her and it ended with him lying to her. He was NO prize for sure! Yes, John pushed her away and I believe it was because the feelings he had for her scared him and he didn’t want to “disappoint” her, but he knew he would. So, he let her go wanting her to be happy. She found happiness with Jared, at least for awhile. But John, himself, I believe has NEVER been happy since SHE was with him. And I believe he’s been answering the question of “how do you know when you’ve found the one?” I, too, want John to FINALLY commit to ONE woman, settle down and have that life that he dreamed about after his car crash. One thing is for certain: the feelings John had for Natalie NEVER went away. Hopefully RC is giving us Jolie round three with a Payoff round 1! Sorry for the rant!

    Hi johnandnatalie04!
As I said up top, I loved John/Nat together round one – and I do LOVE the Easton/Archer chem together these days with Johnny McBain jumping in to rescue Natalie. You see, that is one of THE BEST qualities that I totally love about McBain – his loyalty (sigh).
ITA that I hated John and Marty together….never saw any chem between them.
But Natalie/Jared did grow on me and I really, really liked John Brotherton in the role. I think Brotherton/Archer complimented each other really well and I’m sorry to see him off the show.
But, that’s not to say, that I’m not lovin’ the McBain/Natalie chem that’s been going on, because I am!
I also have to say that I think the chem is even stronger now than Jolie rounds 1 or 2 – and I think part of that is because of the growth of both characters.
    We’ll stay tuned, eh?
    Thanks for posting!

Thanks for the reply, soapbox. I can say I am loving the John/Natalie scenes these days, and am counting the days when Marty gets a clue. Don’t get me wrong, I am a Marty fan,but her and John just don’t mesh.
See for me the chemistry between McBain/Natalie has always been there. The hug today was fabulous, but the scenes are way too short. And I can’t wait to see what happens between these two. i so agree that there has been growth in both characters, and I’m hoping with this growth, they can have a more mature relationship and commitment this go round. But, before that happens, like I said, Marty has to get a clue. Natalie is in John’s blood.
