Given the fact that Trevor St. John has brought so much to the role of Todd Manning over the past 8 years, I think it’s insulting that the One Life To Live writers have marginalized his contributions by

A. Trying to make us believe that he was brainwashed to be Todd all this time

B. Killing him off as Victor Lord Jr., thereby ending the realm of possibilities there could have been between him and Roger Howarth as his brother, Todd.

Isn’t it enough to take One Life To Live off of our television screen?

Trevor St. John

One would think that might spur the writers to go out with a bang….make these last few months spectacular!

Instead, the fabulous Robin Strasser as Dorian Lord is off our screen (I know there was back surgery involved), along with the equally fabulous Gina Tognoni as Kelly Cramer and the wonderful Tom Degnan as Joey Buchanan.

Now Trevor, as Todd, is gone….as in dead. I knew it was coming as TSJ put a message to his fans on his website saying that his last day of taping was the week of July 18. The guy is a class act.

Que Sera Sera! I see bigger things in Trevor’s future. He’s a great actor who has done lots of other things in primetime television and movies. So he will definitely be fine.

I was so happy to be able to see Trevor one last time after his fan luncheon last month, even though my plane landed too late for me to attend his event. He stayed one hour after the alotted time his event was supposed to end in order to spend as much time as he could with his fans….Now THAT’s a nice guy!

Trevor and me after his fan luncheon last month

Let me say upfront that this is NOT a Trevor vs. Roger column. I think both are wonderful actors and have each made the role of Todd Manning their own.

But let’s just say I was less than happy to hear Roger Howarth was coming back as Todd Manning…no slight to Roger at all.

It’s just that I have come to love the layers in the character that TSJ has brought to our screens.

And, I also have to say, that the more I watched the “Tale of Two Todds” unfold, I became intrigued…. There really WERE so many possibilities.

And when “the man with the scar” finally revealed himself to everyone – but we still weren’t sure who the real Todd was – I really enjoyed the onscreen repartee between Roger and Trevor. They were so much fun to watch together!

Roger Howarth and Trevor St. John "The Two Todds"

Once Irene Manning revealed the “story behind the story” of the brothers…that they were twins, Victor was brainwashed and Todd was held captive, etc. etc….the whole convoluted explanation was insulting to the me as a viewer.

After I invested myself for 8 years in TSJ as Todd – all of a sudden he’s not???

I really identified with Dani (Kelley Missal) and Jack (Andrew Trischetta), who didn’t know the other Todd as their father. I felt the abandonment they felt.

But I also realized that this twist of fate could turn into an incredible opportunity for some seriously great storylines in the struggles for control between Victor and Todd.

But, sadly, that was not to be.

I know there are a lot of Roger Howarth fans out there but when he left. HE LEFT! Trevor St. John came on and brought a whole new dimension to Todd Manning. I enjoyed the layers. I applauded the sensitivity. I loved the passion in him.

When Roger Howarth returned I didn’t want to watch because in my mind TSJ was TODD MANNING…no if’s, and’s or but’s about it. However, when it was revealed that TSJ was Victor JR. I was intrigued. Still wanted him as Todd but now prefered him as Victor Jr. (VJ as I call him). I loved and was in tears when Tea (Florencia T.) accepted Victor as “Victor” I loved the steamy, hot scenes they brought in the affirmation of their staying together because of the love they share. I loved the passion between these two characters. I wanted more of VJ and Tea.

I wanted VJ to deal with the aftermath of knowing he was brainwashed into thinking he was Todd and now having to get his “own” life as VJ. I wanted to see that play out. I wanted to see all the relationships he formed as Todd now continue as Victor Jr. Above all else I wanted to continue to see TSJ and Ericka Slezak play off of each other. These two stellar performers would light up the screen.

Now we have been robbed of seeing this great actor continue to bring his “A” game to our screens. I know great things are in store for Trevor but I’m selfish as a soap fan because I want him back on OLTL giving us his brilliant acting.

Alas, I hope Prospect Park does whatever it can to bring Trevor St. John aboard. Llanview needs Victor Jr. The viewers want Victor Jr. Prospect Park……MAKE IT HAPPEN!

So well put, Crispy! I totally agree….So many lost possibilities. I, too, want Trevor back on OLTL and hope that Prospect Park brings him back to Llanview….Fingers crossed!

When I heard month’s ago that RH might return, I was afraid TSJ would get kicked to the curb. I loved to hate TSJ’s Todd, and he was Todd for so long I don’t remember RH’s Todd as much.

I didn’t see the need to kill TSJ off. What about Sam? I would’ve loved to see TSJ fight to get his son back from Blair, and Tea helping him to do so. Arrgghh! SO many potential storylines just gone.

And was it really necessary to not only make TSJ’s Todd brainwashed, but also described as “special”? WTH is that about? Based on some of the things RH’s Todd has done technically they’re both a little “special”!

Also agree that the writers trashed an excellent opportunity to showcase both brothers, especially since Tea stayed true to her feelings for the man she fell in love with (which I didn’t expect), and Jack & Dani didn’t write him off immediately. I can understand Starr having mixed feelings and reservations because she really knew, and loved, RH’s version.

Writers missed the mark on this one, if they’re over extended financially, there are many other characters they could’ve gotten rid of. I’m disappointed.

      Hi Kimi!!
So glad to hear from you!
As usual, you bring up many good points that I totally agree with, especially the part about Sam. There is no question that TSJ’s Todd is the father of Sam. What are they going to do with that?”
And I wholeheartedly agree that it was soooo unnecessary to describe Victor as “special.” I really didn’t understand why that needed to be said and, yes, I also agree that facets of RH’s version could fall under that category….especially the part about him not wanting to be touched.
The whole ending of TSJ as Todd is unfortunate on so many levels.

I thought it was great up until the point Irene had to talk for 40 minutes to explain it all. That was laborious. You’re right. Killing TSJ seemed like a waste. Now they have to resurrect him if he comes back. They should’ve hedged and left bis fate open and mysterious. Both actors have their fans. Murdering soap characters now seems like a copout. It’s more emotionally satisfying to see them just leave & wonder what is to become of them. Death has far less meaning to me anymore in the soap world.

Yes, Shadow! I totally agree about the long-winded explanation….At the end of it, I thought – WHAT???? And, yes, there were so many different scenarios where he could have left town and left the door open.
      Soooo disapointing!

When I look at RH I see the Marty rape s/l I stopped watching after that and didn’t watch agIn until yens later and TSJ was in the role I loved him as Todd but he could make you really dislike him also. He is a wonderful actor I’ll miss him and I didn’t miss RH at all.
I want TSJ to go to GH and become involved with EW and yes still love Liason. BH needs a real actor who actually looks like an adult as her on screen partner–sorry JJ ten yrs from now you’ll appreciate that you still look 25.
I’m so glad I missed the killing off of TSJ it was another dumb ABC move.

I agree about the Marty rape s/l…It was so disturbing and so graphic, that it was really hard to get past as far as RH’s Todd goes.
Good idea about wanting TSJ to go to GH. That would be interesting!
