Would someone please tell me what is in the watercooler at the One Life To Live studios?

More specifically….the writers’ watercooler?

Does it seem odd to anyone else that the OLTL writers’ seem to be making a habit of having a seemingly non-violent person go from a calm, reasonable person to a raging maniac in about five seconds?

Schulyer Joplin (Scott Clifton) the most recent case in point.

Scott Clifton as Schuyler Joplin Photo: ABC/Heidi Gutman

Granted, he did lose everything….Gigi, the baby and then finding out that Mitch was his father.

But there was no evidence at all they he was a) crazy or b) had violent tendencies.

And in a matter of a Big Apple minute, the guy kidnaps Gigi, holds her captive at gunpoint and then aims to shoot Rex, but instead shoots Bo.

Take a look at the way Schuyler goes totally off the deep end with Gigi.

That’s all I can say about what they’ve done to the character.

Then, afterward, Schuyler somehow regains rational thinking when talking with Roxy (Ilene Kristen).

Kind of inconsistent, wouldn’t you say?

This same modus operandi happened with Ross Rayburn (Michael Lowry) just a few short months ago, remember? He went from a laid-back surfer dude to a psycho nut job.

I wrote about it then, marveling at the ridiculousness of it.

It was just a vehicle to get Ross off the show and pair Todd with Tea. But, really, couldn’t they have thought of something that wasn’t so ridiculous?

Now we see the same thing happen to Schuyler.

Unfortunately, we know Scott Clifton has been let go from the show.

So the question is will Schuyler be killed off or sent to St. Ann’s or to Statesville?

And the sad thing is that Roxy will once again be left alone.

    So many opinions about this.
    1. I hope every hospital in the country gets a restraining order issued to Allison. Too many baby switches.

    2. Too many baby switches leaving Roxy childless. I mean, a while ago, she had Natalie and Rex, and now she has Schuyler (who won’t even be on in a while).

    3. Good Guy Gone Crazy Syndrom also happened to Josh and Aidan on AMC. Good guys, then held people hostage with guns. Josh ended up dead, Aidan’s in jail, Ross is who know’s where, and Schuyler….we’ll just have to see how this plays out.

    Hi Joshua!

I totally agree about Allison – WAY too many baby switches. It’s really bordering on the ridiculous at this point….

You are so right about AMC’s Josh and Aidan! Those are perfect examples of the exact same syndrome.

I totally agree with you, what the writers have done to Schuyler is unforgivable. Schuyler was never this person, and to go off the deep end over Gigi of all people makes me even more sad. OLTL was my fav soap only a few short months ago, now all the things I loved about the show have been dismantled or have been written off the show. I’ve lost my will to keep watching.

I totally understand Sky going off the deep end, but not by taking a hostage and shooting someone. Breaking down and totally leaning on Rachel would seem more appropriate. I don’t like to see him leave this way:( It would be more natural for us to view the deep pain he feels, not have him go crazy! I feel for him. I also feel Rex & Gigi are being so wrong towards Sky. To the point, they are making me sick now. I miss Ross 🙁

    Hi Lizbeth,
I am totally with you on OLTL being my fave soap and being disappointed in the way some of the storylines have seemed to have lost their way and also being disappointed by the loss of some of the characters.
    Thanks for posting!

    Hi Kris,
I REALLY LIKE your version of what SHOULD have happened with Sky!
I absolutely understand that he would feel despondent. But I just don’t see him ever taking Gigi hostage at gun point. It was totally out of character.
And, yes, I miss Ross too. So much potential lost with his character gone.

These ridiculous story lines are the reason I quit watching this show weeks ago. Glad I didn’t make a mistake! I keep reading blogs about the show just in case it starts to turn around, but so far there’s no evidence of that happening. Do you recognize any of the characters any more?

    Hi Sally!
Sad, isn’t it? The storylines are horrible and really need to turn around. And they wonder why OLTL is always last in the ratings.
This was always my fave soap, but for the past 2 months, I’ve been watching GH first and, if I get around to it, I’ll watch OLTL.
You’re right. I don’t even recognize the characters anymore. Very, very sad…
