I love Claire Walsh as the tough-as-nails prosecutor on General Hospital for many reasons.

Steve Burton (Jason) and Dahlia Salem (Claire) on GH. (ABC/Patrick Wymore)

For one, Dahlia Salem as Walsh brings a great deal of realism to the role.

She has the mannerisms and presence of a prosecutor down better than many real-life prosecutors.

I know this because is my real job as a news reporter, I cover courts and spend lots of time sitting in courtrooms and watching prosecutors on a daily basis.

Salem, as Walsh, is the real deal.

She’s tough. She’ll do just about anything to win a case – except lie which is taboo – and she has a conscience.

She also has a soft side – as evidenced by her talk with Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) about her biological clock ticking.

I love her paired with Lucky, btw, and I hope that’s where the writers go with her.

Of course, these days, Walsh is making a deal with the devil – namely Sonny -in order to arrest Johnny.

Now, that part, I don’t really like, because – up to now – everything about her character was pretty much real.

But, seriously, this would never happen in reality!

At least not with any ethical prosecutor – and that’s exactly what Claire is.

Remember how incensed she was when she discovered that Jax lied to her and knew it was Michael who killed Claudia all along?

That was real!

But I really liked Monday’s eppy when Claire told Sonny (Maurice Benard) what he was really about.

And she nailed it!

“You’re really good at justifying yourself,” Claire said. “And what’s fascinating to me is that everything that people say, is true. You are ruthless and you’re manipulative. I wouldn’t call you brilliant, but you’re certainly cunning.

“You’re your own biggest fan and you think the world owes you a favor because your stepdad slapped you around. And you use your bad experiences to justify the violence you cause. You’re an emotional bully!”

But then Sonny comes back with telling her that HE knows what she’s all about – her career! And that’s why she doensn’t have a husband or children.

He goes on to tell her that if she arrests him instead of Johnny, it would be much better for her career, because he’s a much bigger fish to fry and Johnny’s a nobody.

“You’re ego never fails to astound me,” Claire says. “Where I’m headed, people like you are somebody else’s problem and, where I’m headed, you’re not a thought on anybody’s mind. You’re just something they scrape off the bottom of their shoes. You’re a stepping stone…just another way to get where I’m going.”

Well said, Claire!

Dahlia Salem (Claire) and Maurice Benard (Sonny) on GH. (ABC/Ron Tom)

However, I’m really afraid of the path they’re going down….

You see, for some reason which I fail to understand, Sonny attracts some strong, smart women.

Case in point: Alexis.

Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) was Sonny’s attorney when she slept with him. Can you say Conflict of Interest?

One Time and BINGO -she’s pregnant!

I DON’T – and I Mean DON’T want to see Claire go down that road.

I cannot stomach Sonny seducing one more intelligent woman and make her into a driveling, Sonny defender.

Not this one!

Run Claire, Run!!!

By Michele Dargan

I have been riveted – JUST RIVETED – the past few days on General Hospital.

And NOT because of the (yawwwwn) – Liz/Nik/Lucky who’s-the-daddy storyline.

I have been fast forwarding through those scenes.

The polar opposite to that is the teen dating abuse storyline.

Back in July, Soapbox1 reported the teen dating abuse storyline was coming up. But, I must admit, I had no idea how loooooong it would take to play out.

Be that as it may, the payout, so far, has been worth the wait.

The performances have been extraordinary on all fronts.

First of all, HUGE KUDOS to Lexi Ainsworth as Kristina. She’s been so good all around since she was brought on after SORASing the character.

But this storyline has really showcased her acting talent.

Btw, whoever did the makeup after Kristina’s brutal beating…..so realistic that it was really hard to look at.

Lexi Ainsworth as Kristina and Nancy Lee Grahn as Alexis Photo: Adam Larkey/ABC

Christian Alexander as Kiefer has been soooo good in making us hate the character…..at least I do. I cannot STAND Kiefer and what he represents.

And, of course, really strong performances (as always) from Nancy Lee Grahn as Kristina’s mother, Alexis Davis. I so empathized with her every moment.

Then there was Maurice Benard, who makes me, alternately, love Sonny one moment and hate him the next. In this case, I hated him when he pointed the gun at Ethan, threatening to kill him in his very Sonny way.

Dominic Zamprogna (Dante), Jane Elliot (Tracy), Jonathan Jackson (Lucky), Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Nathan Parsons (Ethan). Photo: ABC/Adam Larkey

But, the next minute, I sympathized with Sonny when he was in Kristina’s hospital room, talking about watching his mother getting beaten back when he was a boy…..which, we know, helped propel the whole mob thing.

I also loved the tender moments between Kristina and her newly-discovered brother Detective Dante Falconeri (Domenic Zamprogna). Zamprogna is so earnest and so caring as Dante…..Ya gotta love him!

And it was quite interesting watching Dante eavesdrop on Sonny’s above-mentioned soliloquy to Kristina.

Is Dante softening toward Sonny? It seems so.

I also like the close sisterly relationship developing between Kristina and Sam (Kelly Monaco). Sam, who had been abused, had a heart-to-heart with Kristina in the hospital and put on a brave front for her. Sam broke down in tears afterward with Jason.

For me, it’s really hard to watch everyone believing that Ethan did this to Kristina when we all know that he didn’t.

Nathan Parsons as Ethan Lovett. Photo: Rick Rowell/ABC

I guess, from what I’m gathering, the abused person protects her attacker.

But, in this case, it could mean that an innocent person could die. And that’s the part of the storyline that I don’t like

Kristina told Kiefer that she didn’t want him to die and that she knew if she named him that Sonny would kill him.

But what about Ethan? She doesn’t care that Sonny would kill him?

That part, I don’t get. And that part makes me want to scream at the TV that Ethan didn’t do this!

I’m interested to see what happens between good friends Luke (Tony Geary) and Sonny when Luke gets back into town.

I know the truth will come out. It always does.

I had a feeling today, when Kristina started to tell Alexis that she lied, it wouldn’t lead to her telling the truth about who really attacked her.

It was too early for that.

I just hope it doesn’t take too long for the truth to come out.

I want to see Kiefer get his due – and his smug, pompous parents too!

Now today’s General Hospital eppy is more like it!

Have I told you lately how much I LOVE Carolyn Hennesy as Diane?

Hennesy is so uber-talented that she delivers 110 percent ev-e-ry sin-gle time she enters a scene.

And paired with Derk Cheetwood as Max Giambetti…..well they make me smile or outright laugh out loud together.

Like today.

When Diane sang “Signed Sealed and Delivered” during Karaoke night at Jakes.

Watch the video. It says it all!

One other bit of good news as far as I’m concerned.

The apparent pairing of Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Mac Scorpio (John J. York).

One of my pet peeves on GH has been the lack of screen time for the handsome Port Chuck police commish. York is SO talented and disgustingly underused.

The only time he gets screen time is when he’s used to prop the Mob storyline.

We need more Mac and he needs a good solid storyline….and I think there’s real possibilities with Alexis.

And as far as Alexis…..when her tween-age daughter (Molly) is telling whoever will listen about the blatantly bad choices in men her mother has made in the past…I think that signals a serious lack of judgement.

Actually, that’s the biggest understatement of the year…..Let’s review her past relationships.

Sonny – mob boss; Rick – pathological liar and sociopath; Jerry – psychopath.

And that’s a sad state of affairs considering Alexis, in her professional life, is a smart, saavy, shark of an attorney in the courtroom. But in her private life……not so much.

So, now, the possibility of an Mac/Alexis pairing gives me hope. They have shown a great chemistry together so far, particularly with their Karaoke duo to “Dancing in the Street.”

Grahn was soooo funny! Like Hennesy, Grahn is another one who puts a smile on my face, when she’s allowed to have some lighter, more comedic moments.

And when she’s paired with Hennesy….the skys the limit in terms of talent with those two.

In my opinion, Max/Diane and Alexis/Mac are more of what we need on GH.

And let’s have less of the Mob Wars and the Lucky/Liz/Nik triangle.

Because Let’s face it. Neither one of those storylines can end well.

An interesting press release arrived today that I thought I’d share with you.
When I saw Nancy Lee Grahn’s name in the headline, it immediately got my attention.
And as I read on, it became even more interesting.
As a soap fan, I have – for years – enjoyed Nancy Lee Grahn’s portrayal of the strong, smart, ever-so-efficient attorney Alexis Davis.
But I had no idea that she was involved in a court battle regarding her child.
According to this release, Grahn is testifying Tuesday at the California Assembly Judiciary Committee Hearing on behalf of Bill AB 612. If passed, the bill would outlaw the use of Parental Alienation Syndrome to gain custody of children in divorce situations.
The syndrome describes behavior where one parent turns a child against the other by convincing the child the parent has treated him or her badly, even when they have not. Many call it “junk science” and are trying to get it banned from being used to gain custody in divorce cases.
Below is the press release which describes Grahn’s participation in these hearings and her support for this bill.
T.V. Star Nancy Lee Grahn to Join Dozens of Family Court Victims to Urge Passage of Assemblyman Jim Beall’s AB 612
What: Pre-Hearing Press Conference
Who: Daytime TV Celebrity Nancy Lee Grahn & dozens of family court victims & court reform advocates
When: 8:30AM on Tuesday, April 28 – Press Conference; 9:00AM Hearing in Room 4202
Where: State Capitol- Room 444
Acclaimed television star Nancy Lee Grahn will address reporters tomorrow about her personal family court ordeal before she testifies on behalf of AB 612 at the California Assembly Judiciary Committee Hearing. Grahn will join dozens of parents and children to speak about the ravages of Parental Alienation Syndrome, or PAS, on their lives, and the desperate need for family court reform.
Like thousands of parents in California’s family courts, Grahn was falsely accused of alienating her child against her father, yet she eventually prevailed in her protecting her child. AB 612 would outlaw the use of this unscientific theory that is typically responsible for placing more than 58,000 children per year in the U.S. into dangerous homes with parents the children have identified as their molesters and abusers (Leadership Council on Child Abuse & Interpersonal Violence). Beall’s bill is just one of a handful of measures addressing the need for family court reform in California this year.
PAS is a controversial, unscientific theory that does not meet legal evidentiary standards, yet it is commonly used in family courts everywhere. PAS and related alienation theories are not accepted or endorsed by the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, American Psychological Association, American Prosecutors Research Institute, National Center for Prosecution of Child Abuse, and nearly all credible researchers on the subject.

Did you catch those scenes Wednesday on General Hospital with Diane/Max and Alexis/Jerry at the Metro Court?
I tell you, anytime Diane and Alexis are together lately, they never fail to make me laugh.
I can’t help it.
It happens before I even realize it.
I’m sitting there watching their scenes and I hear myself laughing.
Take Wednesday.
Prim and proper super-lawyer Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn) sits at the Metro Court bar and sometimes evil but super-charming Jerry Jacks getsthisclosetokissingher, when BFF and fellow super-lawyer Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) pops up from behind the bar and screams “Now who has an embarrassing attachment to a bad boy?”
You see, Alexis has been trying to dissuade Diane from dating Max Giambatti, the mob bodyguard with a heart of gold.
I just love Derk Cheetwood as Max. Always have.
And when he is paired with Hennesy, the two are just hysterical.
Meanwhile, Alexis is incredibly attracted to Jerry (Sebastian Roche)…..You know, the one who masterminded and terrorized the hostages in the Metro Court crisis under the identity of Mr. Craig.
After Diane breaks up the kiss between Alexis and Jerry – a few minutes later Diane and Max are smooching at a nearby table…..So Alexis marches over to Diane and tells her that she’s making a spectacle of herself.
And from there, the two get into a spirited discussion of who is with the baddest bad boy.
Diane launches into a diatribe about how she and Max were discussing baseball – to which Alexis retorts that Diane’s mind has turned to mush.
Never to be outdone, Diane lashed out with perhaps the best line of the day.
“Well at least I’m not choking on my own hypocrisy! How dare you come over and criticize my relationship with Max when you’re sitting over there canoodling with Mr. Craig, the Metro Court Hostage Taker!”
Touche!
Here’s the video. Check it out for yourself.

Go Di-ANE!
Whoo Hoo!
I am just so happy.
After endless months of flirting with Max, super attorney Diane Miller made the first move by pulling Sonny’s bodyguard to her and laying a long, passionate kiss on the otherwise, shy Max.
And it didn’t end there!
After they had sex on – of all places – Sonny’s couch, Diane’s new BFF and fellow attorney Alexis Davis walks in on them….staid, uptight Alexis.

Priceless!
These scenes were welcome comic relief in a show that – at the moment – abounds with dark, sad and tragic storylines.
Let’s see…
We have Nikolas taking the experimental drug in order to keep his dead fiancee, Emily, coming to him via hallucinations; while faithful and adoring nurse Nadine is taking the brunt of his delusions – Dark.
Claudia and Johnny Zacchara trying to deflect suspicion about Michael’s shooting from them – Dark.
Grief-stricken Sonny, blaming himself for his son’s shooting and pacing around his coffee warehouse with a gun – Dark.
Elizabeth and Jason ending their relationship – Sad.
Carly and Jason grieving – Sad.
Michael’s shooting and the ensuing prognosis that he may never regain conciousness – Tragic.
There you have it in a nutshell.
Not much uplifting happening on GH these days.
Except Diane, Max and Alexis.
They add a much needed laugh to episodes that have brought buckets of tears.
Watch the scene after Alexis walks in and she chastises an unrepentant, Diane.

Ever since Max (Derk Cheetwood) had that obsessive crush on Carly, I’ve wanted Max to have a real love interest.
Those scenes really brought out Cheetwood’s comedic side. And he is so likeable and so funny!
As for Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Diane (Carolyn Hennesy) – I’ve craved scenes with them ever since the duo embarked on their excellent adventure .
Grahn and Hennesy are brilliant together. They feed off each other seemlessly.
Check out the Diane and Alexis scene that preceded the Diane/Max encounter.
Alexis was crazed over the realization that Michael’s shooting could have been Christina, her daughter with Sonny.
Diane tried to help her friend, offering spirits and advice.

Did you catch the part when Coleman delivers Diane’s umbrella drink and Alexis tears the top off and begins slurping it?
Too funny!
Now that Diane and Max have done the deed, I’m looking forward to seeing where this will go.

Let me preface this by saying it’s not going to be another General Hospital rant.
There isn’t a lot about General Hospital that I’m liking these days.
Violence, mob wars, killing Emily and Georgie…..Ugh!
There’s more….
Just when Ric Lansing was getting his humanity back….
Just when it looked like Ric (Rick Hearst) and Skye Quartermaine (Robin Christopher) would finally find a little happiness with each other…
Skye announces she’s leaving town!
Ugh!
I can’t even discuss it, I’m so mad.
So, yeah, I’m not happy with GH overall.
However, there are a few characters who I absolutely love.
Diane Miller, played by Carolyn Hennesy, is one of those.
Since the moment she stepped her designer shoes into Port Charles, Diane has never failed to entertain.
Hennesy’s portrayal of the tough-as-nails, hard-hitting, perfectly coiffed, couture-wearing, defense attorney for mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) has been a joy to watch.
What started as a small, character part has blossomed into a major player in Port Charles.
And, more importantly, a very enjoyable one!
I love watching Diane flirt with Max, Sonny’s bodyguard.
There was a scene awhile back with the two of them drowning their sorrows about Sonny and Carly at a bar and coming thisclose to leaving together.
It has been fun watching as little by little they are realizing an attraction for each other.
The scene in Sonny’s backroom last week was so funny, when Max (Derk Cheetwood) entered, saw Diane and squirted some breath spray into his mouth.
She not only plays the tough, lady lawyer scenes perfectly, but she also has a wonderful comedic side that always makes me laugh out loud – never more than the past few days when she’s been paired with her legal nemesis, Alexis Davis (Nancy Lee Grahn).
Both were nominated for Litigator of the Year.
Both were shown receiving their letters, scrambling to get couture gowns and boarding a plane to the awards ceremony in Philadelphia.
They end up sitting next to each other on the plane – thus begins Alexis and Diane’s not-so excellent adventure.

And they were such pains to the flight attendant that they end up getting kicked off the plane.
So Funny!
Grahn and Hennesy feed so well off of each other.
They both have a great natural comedic delivery and the two together are hysterical. I mean I could not stop laughing throughout their escapades trying to get to Philadelphia to see who will collect the coveted award.
They rent a car and get a flat tire and then run out of gas in the middle of nowhere.
So they grab the garment bags with their gowns and begin walking towards a light.
It turns out to be a biker bar.

If you think their plane and car escapades were funny, check out the biker bar video.
Hysterical!
These two veteran actresses remind me of Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance.
General Hospital needs more Diane and Alexis and less mob wars and violence.
